JESUS' PARABLES: THE MONEYLENDER

It is an incontrovertible fact that money causes friction between people, especially when one party owes the other, and is not forthcoming with the desired repayment. The love of money is the root of all evil (1 Timothy 6:10). The ability to forgive our debtors, and the gratitude often expressed by the debtor, are examined by our Lord Jesus in His parable of the Money-Lender.
Jesus teaches that the master not only forgave his two debtors their debts, but that the debtor who owed more money would be more grateful and loving than the debtor who owed less money (Luke 7:41-47).
The first lesson here is to ask God for the capacity to forgive, especially where money or fidelity is involved. The master showed the capacity to forgive all manner of people; those that owed him a lot, and those that owed him little. It reminds us that God forgives our little lies, and our large transgressions. Sin is sin to God, and He chooses to forgive us every time, when we are genuinely sorry and ask for His forgiveness.
The second lesson is mind-boggling yet simple; we who have been forgiven so much and saved from the jaws of death and eternal damnation should love Jesus with all our heart. Allegorically speaking, the murderer on death row would be more grateful and loving than the simple thief serving a term of 2 years if both their sentences were upturned and they were set free.
Jesus teaches us in this parable to forgive no matter what the infraction against us is, and to be grateful when we are also forgiven by others.

Lesson of the Week

1. Forgive those who sin against you (Ephesians 4:31-32).
2. Be grateful when you are forgiven (Psalms 30:1-12).
A man who does not forgive is paving the way for God not to forgive him also.
Jesus commands us to forgive others, so that God will also forgive us. He advises us to defer making our offerings to Him until we have forgiven those who have hurt us (Matthew 5:23-25).
Are you hurting today? Has someone unjustly used you? Are you harboring a grudge? I ask you in the name of our Lord Jesus to let them go so you can receive God’s unqualified blessings!
His ways are truly not our ways, and His thoughts are so much higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9).
As the moneylender did in Jesus’ parable, forgive those who owe you; God will replenish all you lost in obedience to Him. And if you were the forgiven party, be grateful, and show mercy to your debtors too.
Have a blessed week full of forgiveness and healing, and God keep you.

Weekly Nugget: “Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven” (Matthew 18:21-22; KJV).
