JESUS' PARABLES: THE RICH FOOL (2)

This week we continue learning from Jesus’ parable of the Rich Fool. In last week’s treatise, we came to the conclusion that this parable “depicts the end of the rich man who stores ONLY for his future merriment”.
Critical questions we should ask ourselves are:
Do greed and selfishness still get the better of me?
Do I find it hard to share the benefits of my hard work with others?
Do I treat my worldly possessions as permanent and hard-earned, reluctant to give to others in need?
If our answers to these questions are positive, as most of us shockingly find them to be so, then the Lord Jesus is referring to us in this parable.
Do not despair however, because everybody has fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23), God’s mercies are new daily (Lamentations 3:22-23), and His love is everlasting (Psalms 100:5).
With the knowledge that most of us think like the rich fool, but our dependence of the saving grace and mercy of God, we should take defined steps to change our outlook to riches, and to be God’s faithful stewards.
How do we then fight our inherent greed or love for possessions?
How do we improve in the area of sharing the fruits of our hard work and God’s blessings with others?
How do we live with the reality that our lives, and by extension, our earthly riches are transient or brief?
We look to Jesus and to His Word …….

Lesson of the Week

1. Look for opportunities to give others; do not think of HOW you will gain it back. It comes back multiplied to you because the law of giving and receiving is a spiritual one, and it cannot fail (Luke 6:38).
2. Remember that only God blesses man’s handiwork. There are so many hard workers out there who are not as successful as you are. This means that your riches are a blessing from God, and not a result of your hard work. Share what you have been blessed with; God is looking for those who will spread His wealth to all men. The more you give, the more goodwill you spread, the more you will receive, and the more your Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus are glorified (Isaiah 48:17-19).
3. Life is brief, and there are no earthly riches where we go; live generously, change lives for the better, and do all the good you possibly can while you are still here. Understand that your earthly riches are meant to bless others here on earth; understand that it pleased God to bless you abundantly because He sees you CAN be a generous and faithful steward (Ecclesiastes 9:10-11).
Live, love, give, and bless! Be a rich wise man; represent God well.
May the Creator of the Universe grant you a giver’s heart, and may you be an asset in His Kingdom.
Calvary Blessings to you and yours this week!

Weekly Nugget: “And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God”  (Luke 12:19-21; KJV).
